To celebrate World Book Week pupils participated in a number of different challenges, competitions and events starting with a book Character mufti day in early March, and finishing with an exciting visit from author Rob Lloyd Jones.
On World Book Day itself children dressed in their favourite book characters in return for a donation to the Head Girl and Head Boy's nominated charities, Smile Train and the Otaker Kraus Music Trust. The Prep children paraded in their costumes through the Pre-Prep to the delight of the youngest children and there were prizes for the best costume in each class.
We held a popular second-hand book sale in the Old Library, Word and Short Story competitions, a Book Cover Quiz and an Egg Book Character competition. The toughest challenge was the Match the Teachers to their Favourite Children’s Book where pupils struggled to find the sometimes tenuous link.
Rob Lloyd Jones, the author of the award-winning Wild Boy series spent time talking to the children in Years 3 to 8 about his latest novel Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake. Children also had an opportunity to meet him at lunch-time where he signed books and chatted to them more about his books and the characters in them.
