Our First U10 Netball Tournament

Last Saturday we hosted our very first U10s netball tournament. As well as the Newland House A team, we were joined by 8 other schools providing us with strong competition.

The girls started well and fought hard to achieve a narrow victory over Ravenscourt Park 3-2. They then played a strong Bute House team and despite some impressive play, they scored a couple of goals in the second half to beat us 1-3. This was followed by a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Pembridge Hall where we had 75% of the possession but could just not score. We won against LEH  3-0 and Holy Cross 2-1 and a defeat to the eventual winners Bishopsgate 0-4. However, the girls had put themselves in contention to finish in 4th place and convincing victories against Glendower 3-0 and NHEHS 2-1 put us in the playoffs for 3rd and 4th place. We played Ravenscourt Park again who had made some changes to their line up and proved to be much stronger opposition. Despite some determined play, the team eventually lost 2-4 to finally finish in 4th place overall. Well done to the A squad who displayed some good team play which is encouraging for the remainder of the season.

Whilst Ravenscourt Park and Newland House were busy competing for third and fourth place Bishopsgate and Bute House battled it out for the shield. The final was incredibly close and after 8 minutes the teams were drawing 5-5!  It was nail biting for the Bute House and Bisphosphate teachers who knew this meant the girls would have to play 2 minutes of extra time. The teams were tired but powered through with Bishopsgate just managing to claw 2 goals in the final seconds of the game. All of the girls played incredibly well throughout the day and should be extremely proud of their performance.  We now look forward to hosting the U11 Netball Tournament next term.
