The whole of Year 6 participated in the Junior Citizen Scheme held at Hampton Wick Cricket Club on 17th September. Junior Citizen is an event which is run annually, where the children experience real-life situations where they need to make sensible decisions related to each scenario. The day provided the pupils with an opportunity to learn how to deal with different types of dangers, as well as get to know their local police officers and firefighters.
During the morning, the children were placed in teams and participated in a variety of staged events: water safety at the riverside; travel awareness on the Tube, bus and on bicycles; what to do in the event of a fire; phone safety and dealing with cyber bullying etc. In each scenario pupils had to make decisions about safety matters and the best course of action. Points were awarded for good team performance.
The event is run by the Safety Education Team from the Borough of Richmond upon Thames and we have participated in this scheme for the last few years. It was an excellent experience for Year 6 : great fun, challenging and very informative.
