IAPS National Netball Finals

Our Year 6 girls played superbly well against the top teams in the country on Friday 10th March at the IAPs National Netball Finals

The team began their campaign with a win against Barrows Hill followed by a draw against a strong Derwent Lodge team.  The girls received a timely boost in their match with Casterton, beating them 7-0 and continued to look confident and strong against Wellingborough winning 9-2.

The match with Ashfold was a must win and we achieved a convincing 4-2 victory but subsequently lost 8 -4 against Millfield who had the benefit of much taller players. St Piran’s had looked strong all day and although we started with a 3-0 lead we found them increasingly hard to mark and the match ended with a 7-5 loss. We went on to beat The Marist 5-3 and in our last game against Berkhamsted who hadn’t lost a game all day, we started strong and held a 2-2 draw for the first part of the game, but their superior strength left us losing 8-3.

Only the top two teams in each group qualify for the afternoon finals and sadly we finished 5th in our group.  We faced extremely challenging competition and the girls excelled against some of the strongest opposition in the country.

We stayed and watched the final which saw Hazelwood narrowly beat Bute by one goal. The girls played incredibly well and should be very proud to say that they are in the top 20 Netball teams in the country.

Regional Finals 2nd March

The U11 A team had a challenging day on 2nd March at the Regional Netball Qualifier but the girls played some excellent netball resulting in them winning 12 out of 13 matches.

Winning the inital 9 games ensured that we finished first in our group meaning we had automatic qualification to the National Netball Finals. A fantastic achievement for the girls.

We then had to play for first to fourth place to be suitably seeded on Friday at the finals. In the afternoon, we played against three strong teams. Beating Kensington Prep 8-5 gave the girls momentum to keep working hard, they then went on to beat Bishopsgate 6-3.  We knew we had to beat Bute to finish first overall. After a tough fight the girls finally lost 5-2.  Which placed us second in one of the toughest regions in the country.

Qualifying is an amazing achievement and the girls played superbly throughout a very long and highly pressurised day.
