The Year 6 History Trip to France began with a very choppy crossing of the English Channel on a similar journey to the military of the Allied invasion in the World War II Normandy landings. The children were impressed by the German field-gun bunkers overlooking Omaha beach and enjoyed some recreational time by the sea. Our tourists were incredibly respectful during their moving and poignant visit to the American Normandy Cemetery, made famous by the film Saving Private Ryan and at Pegasus Bridge, which marked the very start of the battle to liberate Paris. Pupils bargained at the market at Bayeux and traced the moments in history captured in the Bayeux Tapestry. The trip was completed with a visit to the D-Day Museum and a spectacular 360 degree cinematic experience.
