'Although Latin is a dead language, it still has relevance today. Learning Latin makes it easier to understand modern day languages because many languages derive from Latin. Newland House offers the Greek trip, based around classics where we visit many of the ancient sites. Despite starting Latin in year 6, the passages we translate are fairly complex. In Latin we translate stories of thefts and battles which makes Latin more exciting than it might originally seem.’

In our modern world, studying Latin remains fundamentally important and develops an awareness of Classical civilisation, is excellent training for the mind and helps to develop the logical and analytical thought processes that are useful across a range of other subjects.
